What to do on Amavasya?

Amavasya is the no moon day in Hindu Calendar. As per Hinduism, Amavasya is dedicated to dead ancestors and relatives. Taking holy bath in sacred rivers, giving alms and performing Shradh and Tarpan is considered highly auspicious as per scriptures in Hindu religion.

Here are the important things you can do on Amavasya
It is believed to be the ideal day to offer prayers to dead family members and take their blessing.

Pitr (dead ancestors) can help in desire fulfillment. Planting trees and plants will help in progress in life. Naming them after dead family members will help in desire fulfillment.

Giving food to needy and hungry people on Amavas is considered meritorious. Helping the needy in any form alleviates all sufferings and ushers in peace and prosperity.

For removal of difficulties in life, one can take bath early morning on Amavasya day and then feed fishes. You can also birds and animals.

After thoroughly cleaning the house, lighting ghee lamp at night on Amavasya will help in getting the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.
