Puniyancode Thaiparadevatha Thekkan Kariyathan Kottam Temple – Thira Theyyam Kaliyattam Festival

Puniyancode Thaiparadevatha Thekkan Kariyathan Kottam temple is located at Puniyankod near Mathamangalam in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Thai Paradevatha, and Thekkan Kariyathan and other popular deities worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for three days in Malayalam Makara Masam – Makaram 1 to Makaram 3 (January 15 to January 17).

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Puniyancode Thaiparadevatha Thekkan Kariyathan Kottam temple are Thai Paradevatha theyyam, Thekkan Kariyathan, Kudiveeran and Raktha Chamundi theyyam.

The temple has a chathura sreekovil (square sanctum sanctorum) for the main deity. The walls and roof of the shrine are decorated with traditional motifs. There are other smaller sanctums for other deities. Some deities are worshipped atop small square platforms and under trees. The temple performs special pujas and rituals on Sankranti day.
