Durga Puja Sashti - Starting Of Durga Puja Rituals

Durga Puja Sashti, or Sasthi, is observed on the sixth after new moon in the Bengali month Ashwin. In 2024, the date of Durga Puja Sashti is October 9. Goddess Durga is welcomed on Sashti day to Puja pandals and households. The important ritual on the day includes unveiling the face of Durga murti (idol) and Kalparamba. Bodhon, Amontron and Adibas are some of the main rituals on Sashti day. Kalparamba is the beginning of Pujas. Bodhon is the consecration (invocation) of Goddess Durga Idol. Amontron is inviting the Goddess and Adibas sanctifying the stay of Goddess in the pandal of puja arena. Viveka Sindhu – Book On Vedanta By Mukundaraya

Viveka Sindhu is a vedantic book written by Mukundaraya, a well known saint-poet,who probably flourished in the late 12 th century CE. Mukundaraya upheld the atman-Brahman identity of Upanishads in the work on Vedanta. Realization of the highest atman was declared as the highest goal of human endeavor in the book. The title ‘Viveka Sindhu’ is significant. It literally means ‘ocean of discrimination’. The first part of the work describes the characteristics of worthy teacher and a worthy student. Then certain topics like panchikarana and elucidation of the expression of ‘sarvam brahmam’ are dealt elaborately. In the next half, the implications of mahavakya ‘tatvamasi’ are explained. Then follows the denial of linga deha and a description of sayujya-bhakti. The worki s rich in metaphor and abounds in colloquial words which are easily understood.

Nirvichara Samadhi In Hinduism

In Hinduism, Nirvichara Samadhi is a conceptual term relating to Yoga. Samadhi is defined by Patanjali as a state of the citta (internal organ) having two qualities  - Experiencing only the object of contemplating exclusively (arthamatranirbhasata) and absence of self awareness (svarupasunyata) (Yogasutra – III; 3). It arises out of the state of dhyana, which itself is an extension of the state of dharana. The three states together constitute what is called antaranga (internal Yoga). There are two main varieties of Samadhi respectively called sabija Samadhi (Samadhi with seed) and nirbija Samadhi (Samadhi without seed). Seed here means the object of contemplation. Nirbija Samadhi is also called sahajvastha, jivanmukti or asamprajnyata yoga, i.e., asamprajnyata Samadhi. Sabija Samadhi is also called samprajnyata Samadhi, salambana Samadhi, or samapatti. Story Of Tvashta In The Vedas

Tvashta was the skilled craftsman of Devas. He was also the guardian of the soma rasa, the celestial elixir. His story is associated the powerful Demon Vritrasura. Tvashta had made and sharpened the iron axe of Agni, he made thunderbolts for indra and made the goblet from which the Devas drank amrita, the nectar of immortality. He had also crafted the golden chariot of King Prithu. He married Rachana, an asura woman. The couple had a powerful three-headed son named Vishvarupa, who was well versed in the Vedas. When Indra and Brihaspati, the Guru of Devas, had a fight, Vishvarupa was appointed as the Guru of Devas. Vishvarupa was attached more towards Asuras and therefore he covertly worked for the downfall of the Devas. When Indra found out the treachery, he killed Vishvarupa. Tvashta was enraged by the death of his son and summoned demon Vritrasura to kill Indra.
