Kalliasseri Kappoth Kavu Puthiya Bhagavathy Temple –Theyyam Kaliyattam Thira Festival

Kalliasseri Puthiya Bhagavathy temple, famously known as Kappoth Kavu, is located at Vallithode near Kalliasseri in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavathi and other deities. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for four days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 5 to Kumbham 8 (February 18 to Feb 21).

Important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kalliasseri Kappoth Kavu Puthiya Bhagavathy temple are Karan theyyam, Nagakanya theyyam, Thamburatty theyyam, Ilamkolam theyyam, Puthiya Bhagavathi theyyam, Veeran theyyam and Veera Kali theyyam.

This is a small beautiful Kerala style temple with traditional architecture. There is a chathura sreekovil for the main deity. There are also small sreekovils and square platforms for worshipping subsidiary deities. Some deities are worshipped under trees. Sankranti in every Malayalam month is of great importance here.
