Thoyammal Kannoth Bhagavathy Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival – Rare Chirukanda Moorthi

Thoyammal Kannoth Bhagavathy temple is located at Karattuvayal near Kanhangad in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Kannoth Bhagavathi, Chamundi, Vishnumoorthi and several other deities. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held in Malayalam Kumbha Masam on March 3 and March 4. The rare Chirukanda Moorthi theyyam is performed here.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Thoyammal Kannoth Bhagavathy temple are Karim Chamundi theyyam, Kannoth Gurukkal theyyam, Kannoth Bhagavathi theyyam, Chirukanda Moorthi theyyam, Gulikan theyyam and Vishnumoorthi theyyam.

This is a small shrine with a square sanctum sanctorum (chathura sreekovil) for the main deities. The roof and walls are traditionally decorated. Other deities are worshipped in smaller chathura sreekovil. Some deities are worshiped atop raised square platforms. Certain deities are worshiped under trees. The roof and walls are traditionally decorated. Sankranti in every Malayalam month is of significance here.
