Kolachery Sree Chathampalli Vishakandan Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival

Kolachery Sree Chathampalli Vishakandan temple is located at Kolachery in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Vishakandan and other deities that are commonly worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Thula Month – Thulam 9 and Thulam 10 (October 26 to October 27).


The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kolachery Sree Chathampalli Vishakandan temple are Vishakandan theyyam, Thai Paradevatha theyyam, Ilamkolam theyyam, Elladathu Bhagavathy theyyam and Gulikan theyyam.

This is a small temple with a chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum. The shrine has a decorated roof with traditional motifs. This is a privately maintained family temple. Certain deities are worshipped atop square platforms and under trees. Important pujas are performed here on Sankranti day which falls in the middle of a month as per Malayalam calendar.
