Kiliroor Kunninmel Devi Temple History - Festival - Charakkilada Offering

Kiliroor Kunninmel Devi temple is located at Thiruvarpu village in Kottayam District, Kerala. The 8-day festival is observed in such a manner that it ends with Arattu on Pooram nakshatra in Meenam month.

The temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati who faces west. The shrine is atop a hill which is around 5 acres. The temple has a gold plated flag post.

The Upa Devatas in the temple are Sri Krishna, Shiva, Ganapathy, Madathil Bhagavathi, Bhadrakali, Yakshi, Sastha and Sapta Matrikas (who are known as Mahilamar).

The main offering the temple is ‘ada' - charakkilada. The sweet ada is made using 101 nazhi rice (aari), 101 coconut, 101 kadalipazham, 3 thulam jaggery and munnazhi neyyu.

The temple was initially under the control of Vettikulangara Kaimal and Palliyil Menon. Later it was under the control of Thekkumkoor. The temple came under the control of Travancore kingdom in kolla varsham 987.
