Hanuman incarnation of Shiva – Ravana devotee of Shiva – the conflict

Hanuman is an incarnation of Shiva – Rudra avatar, partial incarnation. Ravana was one of the greatest devotees of Shiva. So there was conflict – how could an incarnation of Shiva fight the demon Ravan? When Shiva took the avatar of Hanuman, Goddess Parvati raised this question.

Shiva replies that Ravan did all penance and austerities to get boons and become powerful. He was not interested in attaining Moksha. He was interested in only spreading Adharma.

Ravana did intense tapas to please Shiva. When Shiva did not appear, he cut off his heads one by one and offered them into a sacrificial fire.

Ravana thus pleased the 10 ferocious manifestation of Rudra Shiva. But Shiva had 11 Rudra manifestations. The 11th Rudra was not satisfied by the sacrifice.

It is the 11th Rudra that incarnated as Hanuman and caused the destruction of Ravana and his demon empire.

Please note, I repeat here, Hanuman is not an incarnation of Shiva. In fact Hanuman is much superior to Shiva in Hierarchy(Taratamya). Hanuman is an incarnation of Lord Vayu. Lord Vayu has taken three avatars: 1) Hanuman 2) Bheemasena 3) Madhwacharya

As told my Mr Anand I also say that the information given by Hindu Blog is wrong. Hanuman is not the avatara of Shiva. Shiva is no match at all for Hanuman. Hanuman is the avatara of Vayu and he is in the third kakshya whereas Shiva is far inferior to Hanuman

Here is the hierarchy (tAratamya)-
1.Vishnu (supreme God)
2.Laxmi
3.Brahma and Vaayu (Hanuman/Bheema/Madhwa and all Ruju ganas)
4.Saraswati and Bharathi (also all wives of Ruju ganas)
5.Garuda, Shesha and Rudra.
So it is clear that Hanuman is an incarnation of Vayu. As mentioned by Anand and Narahari, Shiva is inferior to Hanuman.

I am fascinated by this concept of Hierarchy and belief in incarnations and avatars. From which Hindu scriptures are these derived?

I came across you blog by accident, and very fascinated by this concept of 'hierarchy', and belief in 'incarnations'. Can you kindly tell me which Hindu scripture defines this hierarchy and it seems that there is some confusion between puranic incarnations and dietification of 'people' of Itihasa.
