Marathi Shravan Month 2024 – Shravan 2024 in Traditional Maharashtra Calendar

Shravan Maas is the fifth month in a traditional Marathi calendar followed in Maharashtra and is a highly auspicious month. Marathi Shravan Month 2024 is from August 5 to September 3. Sawan month is highly auspicious and staunch Hindus do not eat meat products and perform different types of pujas. Mondays is dedicated to Shiva Pooja and on Tuesdays women perform Mangala Gowri Puja. Other important festivals and auspicious days include Nag Panchami, Narali Purnima, Sri Krishna Jayanti and Dahi Handi.

Sankashti Chaturthi monthly fasting dedicated to Lord Ganesh in Shravan Month is on August 22 – Moonrise or Chandrodaya is at 9:00 PM – Indian Standard Time.

The month is primarily dedicated to spirituality, pilgrimages, satsangs and above all worship of Lord Shiva.

Monday – Shiva Puja
Tuesday – Mangala Gouri Puja
Wednesday – Budh Puja
Thursday – Brihaspati Puja
Friday – Jara Jivantika Puja
Saturday – Maruti Puja
Sunday – Aditya Puja

Rituals - Pujas - Fasting in Shravan Month

  • From the first day of Shravan, people observe various Vratas and rituals including abstaining from non-vegetarian food and restricted fasting. 
  • Fridays in the month is chosen for observing special pujas for the welfare of children and there are also community puja.
  • People abstain from drinking alcohol and stop the use of all types of intoxicants.
  • There are also many devout Hindus who only take a single meal during Shravan month. 
  • Some are of the view that restriction in diet is to avoid diseases during the period as Sawan falls during the peak monsoon season.

Shravan month begins at 4:43 PM on August 4 in Maharashtra.

Shravan Maas Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha

Shravan Mahina 2024 Shukla Paksha (Waxing phase of moon) is from August 5 to August 19. 
Shravan Maas 2024 Krishna Paksha (Waning phase of moon) is from August 20 to September 3.

Purnima in Marathi Shravan Maas

Shravan Purnima or Full moon day is on August 19, 2024.
The Purnima begins at 3:05 AM on August 19 and ends at 11:56 PM  on August 19.
Raksha Bandhan and Nariyal Purnima are observed on August 19.
Rik Shravani is also on August 19.

Amavasya in Marathi Shravan Maas

Shravan Amavasya or No moon day is on September 2 and September 3.
The Amavasi begins at 5:22 AM on September 2 and ends at 7:25 AM on September 3.
Pola is observed on September 2.
Pithori Amavasya is on September 2.

Please note that Shravan month 2024 in traditional Hindu calendar followed in North India is from July 22 to August 19.

Shravan Maas in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka is similar to the Marathi Calendar.
