Sarada Devi, the wife of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, is popularly known as Holy Mother and she was integral part of Sri Ramakrishna’s spiritual self. In 2013, the date of Sharada Devi Jayanthi is January 4. This is the 160th birth anniversary of Maa Sarada Devi. Special programs are conducted on the day by Ramakrishna Ashram in India
Holy Mother was born on December 22, 1853 at Jayrambati in rural West Bengal in
Sarada Devi, after passing away of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, accepted the mantle of his spiritual mission and became the Mother for all his followers.
She passed away on July 20, 1920.
The greatness of Sarada Devi is that living like a common woman doing all the household chores; she could yet lift those who sought her to great spiritual heights.

Sri Sarada Devi was the spiritual consort of Sri Ramakrishna. Not until the Master, Sri Ramakrishna passed onto his life partner his spiritual universality before his passing; did the Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi transform from the Holy Mother Sri Sarada the wife of Sri Ramakrishna; to Sri Sri Ma the Universal Mother the Divine Mother of all; all children in all faiths, religions, cultures and continents.

Ramakrishna in Dakshineswar practiced in tapasya the faiths of many paths and found them all to be true. Sri Sri Ma's unconditional love and consciousness gave her the knowing that distinctions did not exist. She as Sri Sri Ma was the Universal Mother and all who call on Her as Ma in name, language, culture with form or without; would be assured they are not alone but ever embraced and protected by the unconditional and eternal love of Sri Sri Ma.
Only after Sri Ramakrishna's transmission of his spiritual universal consciousness was passed onto his wife Sri Sarada Devi preparing her for her life's mision work after his mahasamadhi; did his later monastic disciple Sannyasini Gauri Mata Puri Devi, Founder of the Sri Sri Saradeshwari Ashram in 1895 fulfill Sri Ramakrishna's commissioned work by establishing the first and oldest womens convent in the direct lineage of Sri Ramakrishna. Sri Sri Ma performed the Bhumi Puja of the first convent, womens Math and gave sannyas to the only woman in the direct lineage of Sri Sri Ma being the successor of Sannyasini Gauri Mata Puri Devi who was given the name; Sannyasini Durga Mata Puri Devi.
Sri Sri Saradeshwari Ashram 1895 is the oldest Math, convent where the direct lineage of nuns of Sri Ramakrishna and Sri Sri Ma exist today.
