Narasimha Jayanthi 2014 - Nrsimha Jayanti date in 2014

Narasimha, or Nrsimha, is the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is popularly known as ‘man-lion’ or ‘half man – half lion’ incarnation. In 2014, the date of Narasimha Jayanthi is May 13. The main aim of the Narasimha incarnation was to end the tyranny of Hiranyakashipu and restore the path of Dharma. Prahlada the young son of Hiranyakashipu and an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu paved the way for the removal of Adharma.

Narasimha Jayanti is observed on the 14th day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon) in Vaisakha month (April – May). It is believed that Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Narasimha on the day to destroy demon Hiranyakashipu.

When you say "fasting," is it for the complete day, or for parts of the day?

I also hear that fasting can be for abstaining from anything like sex, "certain foods," not speaking or doing other things.

Additionally, can you or someone "please" explain how to do pujas for the various God/Goddesses on their special days?

Fasting means you can opt for a single meal after sun set. If this is not possible you can opt for fasting by eating fruits and drinking lot of liquids.

On the fasting day you should avoid sex and non vegetarian food and alcohol.

For pujas on other days ...after purification of body and puja area...offer prayers to Ganesha...pray to the deity you are praying to...chant a mantra associated with deity. do simple Aarti.
