Difference between Makara Jyothi and Makaravilakku at Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple

The sighting of Makara Jyothi and Makaravilakku on Makar Sankranti day at the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple is considered highly auspicious and is witnessed by thousands of people. Is Makara Jyothi and Makaravilakku the same? Or is there a difference between the two?

During a controversy that happened regarding Makaravilakku last year, the traditional supreme priest of the Sabarimala temple, Tantri Kantaru Maheswararu, had stated that Makaravilakku was a fire lit by human hand on the Ponnambala Medu hill neighboring Sabarimala while the Makarajyothi was a star that appeared in the evening sky on the day marking the culmination of the annual festival on Makara Sankranti day. (The Hindu)

Makaravilakku is the lamp that is lit at Ponnambala Medu hill neighboring Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple.

Makarajyothi is the star that appears in the evening sky on the day of the festival.

Tantri said this just to shut up the mouth of sickular Government and Media. Makara Villakku is the divine Jyothi appearning in the Ponambala medu of Sabarimala on each Makara Sankrathi day, and that is the form of Lord Ayyappa in Jyothi Swaroopam! dont fool real Hindus by just fearing the media. Tantri said this to queitening the media Abilash you dont have to repeat it again to make the younger Geneation as fools and atheist sorry this post should be deleted as soon as possible. this is totally misguiding. everything cannot be proved by science. if you dont know contat me.

People are going to belive what they are told to belive even if God tells them not to. Tantri Kantaru Maheswararu made it clear the Villakku is lit by humans. I think we should go with it.

Anony,

You are really talking nonsense.. seeing the media and repeating the atheist philosophy I support what traditionally said rather than a statement just to satisfy media and I support Sri above.
