The Chamunda Mata Temple is located about 5 kilometers from Alirajpur in the village of Malwai, Madhya Pradesh. Situated on a hill amid the lower ranges of the Vindhya mountains, the temple is considered an ancient and sacred site. It is widely known in the region as Malwai Mata Temple and is an important center of faith for devotees. Chaitra Navratri festival 2026 date is March 19 to March 27. The main Navratri festival is from October 11 to October 20, 2026.
The temple houses an ancient idol of Goddess Chamunda, where
worship has been performed for many years. Devotees visit throughout the year,
and during Navratri, thousands gather for special prayers and rituals. It is
believed that the goddess blesses devotees and fulfills their wishes,
especially during the Navratri festival. Special ceremonies such as havan (fire
rituals), maha aarti (grand prayer), and continuous sacred lighting (Akhand
Jyoti) are performed during this time.
Locally, the temple is also known as a place where devotees
pray for financial relief. Many believe that seeking blessings here helps
resolve financial difficulties and brings prosperity, especially for
businesspeople.
Historically, part of the temple’s construction dates back
to around 1755, during the rule of Maharaja Sahib Pahad Dev of the Alirajpur
State. Since then, it has remained a major spiritual center for the surrounding
region.
The temple conducts daily morning and evening aartis. On
every full moon day and Sunday, the goddess is adorned with special attire and
decorations, for which advance booking is required. Over the years, the temple
has undergone renovations supported by devotees, and today the temple complex
is well-maintained and considered a scenic and revered place of worship.
Mataji is considered the family deity of the Malwai Asada
community.
