In Magh month, on the day following Saraswati Puja, an important ritual is observed in Bengal known as Sheetal Shasti (or Shilonora Puja day). Lighting the stove is forbidden, and food prepared the previous day is eaten on the day. Sheetal Shasthi 2026 date In Bengal is on January 24.
During this puja, it is customary to worship Goddess, or the
household deity. It is believed that offering food to the goddess removes
scarcity from the home and brings peace and prosperity to the family. It is
also believed that children will not get contagious diseases.
