Thalavil Maruthiyot Sree Puliyoorkali Kavu temple is located at Thalavil in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Puliyur Kali. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for four days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 12 to Kumbham 14 (February 25 to February 27).
Important theyyams that can be witnessed at Thalavil Maruthiyottu Sree Puliyoor Kali Kavu temple are Puliyoor Kali theyyam, Pulikandan theyyam, Karinthiri Nair theyyam, Kannikkoru Makan theyyam, Gulikan theyyam Pullikarinkali theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam and Puliyoor Kannan theyyam.
This is a small shrine with a chathura sreekovil – square
sanctum sanctorum. Some deities are worshipped on square platforms and under
trees. The roof and walls of the main shrine are decorated with traditional
temple motifs. Sankranti in every month is of great significance.
