Vengara Vadakkan Tharavadu Dharma Devasthanam Temple – Kaliyattam Theyyam Thira Festival

Vengara Vadakkan Tharavadu Dharma Devasthanam temple is located at Vengara near Madayi in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavathy, Vishnumoorthi, Vayanattu Kulavan and other deities. The theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held once in two years for three days in Malayalam Meda Masam – Medam 8 to Medam 10 (April 21 to April 23).

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Vengara Kalathil Tharavadu Devasthanam temple are Vadakkathi Bhagavathi theyyam, Gulikan theyyam, Kundor Chamundi, Vayanattu Kulavan theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Kandanar Kelan theyyam and Kurathi theyyam.

This is a small shrine with a chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum. Some deities are worshipped on square platforms and under trees. The roof and walls of the main shrine are decorated with traditional temple motifs. Sankranti in every month is of great significance.
