Kankole Pothuval Thekkedath Tharavadu Devasthanam Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Thira Festival

Kankole Pothuval Thekkedath Tharavadu Devasthanam temple is located at Kankol in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavathi and related deities that are commonly worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Thula Masam – Thulam 11 to Thulam 12 (October 28 to October 29).

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kankole Pothuval Thekkedath Tharavadu Devasthanam temple are is Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Vellarangara Bhagavathi theyyam, Sreebhootham and Panayakkattu Bhagavathi theyyam.

This is a small temple resembling a traditional Kerala house. The shrine has a decorated roof with traditional motifs. Certain deities are worshipped atop square platforms and under trees. Important pujas are performed here on Sankranti day which falls in the middle of a month as per Malayalam calendar.
