Kalathil Kavu – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival - Azhikode Chalil Kalathil Sree Puthiya Bhagavathy Temple

Azhikode Chalil Kalathil Sree Puthiya Bhagavathy temple, also known as Kalathil Kavu, is located in Azhikode in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Puthiya Bhagavathy and other deities. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for five days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 20 to Kumbham 25 (March 4 to March 9).



The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Azhikode Chalil Kalathil Sree Puthiya Bhagavathy temple are Puthiya Bhagavathi theyyam, Nagakanya theyyam, Gulikan theyyam, Sasthappan theyyam, Veerakali theyyam and Veeran theyyam.

This is a small shrine with a chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum. Some deities are worshipped on square platforms and under trees. The roof and walls of the main shrine are decorated with traditional temple motifs. Sankranti in every month is of great significance.
