Chidayarkulangara Bhagavathy Kavu temple is located at Vengara near Madayi in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi and numerous other deities. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held once in three years for four days in Malayalam Vrischika Masam – Vrischikam 10 to Vrischikam 13 (November 25 to November 28). The last theyyam was held in 2022. The shrine belongs to the Maniyani community.
The main theyyams performed at Chidayarkulangara Bhagavathy Kavu temple are Chidayarkulangara Bhagavathy theyyam, Puthiya Bhagavathy theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Madayil Chamundi theyyam, Kundor Chamundi theyyam, Kurathi theyyam, Gulikan and Bhootham.
This is a small shrine with a chathura sreekovil – square
sanctum sanctorum. Some deities are worshipped on square platforms and under
trees. The roof and walls of the main shrine are decorated with traditional
temple motifs. Sankranti in every month is of great significance.
