Pekkadam Kuruvapalli Ara Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival – Famous For Rare Theyyams

Pekkadam Kuruvapalli Ara temple is located at Pekkadam near North Thrikkaripur in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Ayitti Pothi and other deities. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for four days in Malayalam Thula Masam – Thulam 17 to Thulam 20 (November 3 to November 6). The temple performs some rare theyyams in the region.



Important theyyams that can be witnessed at Pekkadam Kuruvappalli Ara temple are Aayitti Bhagavathy theyyam, Asuralan theyyam, Raktha Chamundi, Angakulangara Bhagavathi and Vishnumoorthi theyyam.

This is a small temple with a chathura sreekovil for the main deity. The roof of the shrine is traditionally decorated. There are other smaller sreekovils and raised platforms for other deities. Some deities are worshipped under trees. Sankranti in a Malayalam month is of great importance. There is a beautiful pond attached to the temple.
