Eramam Muchilot Bhagavathi Kavu Temple – Kaliyattam Theyyam Thira Festival

Eramam Muchilot Bhagavathi Kavu temple is located at Eramam near Mathamangalam in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Muchilottu Bhagavathy. The theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held here after a period of several years. The last kaliyattam was held here in 2010. The temple belongs to the Vaniya samudayam.


The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Eramam Pulluru Muchilot Bhagavathi Kavu temple are Kannangattu Bhagavathy theyyam, Puliyoor Kali theyyam, Narambil Bhagavathy theyyam, Muchilot Bhagavathi theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Vettakkorumakan theyyam, Thai Paradevatha theyyam, Raktha Chamundi theyyam, Puliyoor Kannan theyyam and Kundor Chamundi theyyam.

The temple has a chathura sreekovil or square sanctum sanctorum for the main deity. The roof of the shrine is decorated with traditional motifs. There are other small square sanctums in the temple compound. Certain deities are worshipped atop square platforms and under trees. The important pujas and rituals are observed on Sankranti day as per Malayalam calendar.
