Mavichery Vattyan Tharavadu Devasthanam Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Thira Festival

Mavichery Vattyan Tharavadu Devasthanam temple is located at Mavicheri near Taliparamba – Payyanur in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Chamundi and other deities worshipped in kavu in the region. The annual theyyam – kaliyattam festival in the temple is held for two days in Malayalam Thula Masam – Thulam 26 and Thulam 27 (November 11 and November 12).

The important theyyams that are part of the annual kaliyattam – thira festival at Mavichery Vattyan Tharavadu Devasthanam temple are Monthi Kolam theyyam, Kundor Chamundi theyyam and Thorakkarathi theyyam.

The temple has a main chathura sreekovil. Other deities that are popularly worshipped in tharavadu, kavu and temples in Kannur region are worshipped in square platforms and small sreekovil. Yearly Vishu and monthly sankranti days are important in the temple. This is a small privately maintained temple.
