Ayyankkave Kulom Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Thira Festival

Ayyankkave Kulom temple is located on the Parakalai-Ayyankave-Ennappara-Thayannur Road, Ayyankavu, Bellur, in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy and other deities that are commonly worshipped in tharavadu, kavu and sacred places in Kasaragod region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for four days in Malayalam Vrischika Masam – Vrischikam 21 to Vrischikam 24 (December 6 to December 9).

Important theyyams that can be witnessed at Ayyankkave Kulom temple are Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Chamundi Amma theyyam, Narkalath Bhagavathy theyyam, Karuvalath Bhagavathy theyyam, Kuttichathan and Bhairavan Theyyam.

This a family-maintained temple with a small chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum. Some deities are worshipped on small square platforms and under trees. Pujas are held mainly during Sankranti and Vishu.
