Peruvamba Vayanattukulavan Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Festival

Peruvamba Vayanattukulavan temple is located at Peruvamba near Peringome in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Vayanattu Kulavan and other related deities commonly worshipped in Kavu and tharavadu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 17 and Kumbham 18 (March 1 and March 2).


The temple has four separate shrines (Chathura Sreekovils) – square sanctum sanctorum – for various deities. Some deities are worshipped under trees and atop square platforms. Sankranti in every month is of great importance here.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Peruvamba Vayanattukulavan temple are Kurumbilottu Bhagavathy theyyam, Peruvamba Chamundi theyyam, Karimanal Chamundi, Kattumadantha, Vaynattu Kulavan, Puthya Bhagavathy, Vishnumoorthi and Gulikan theyyam.
