Kunnaru Parayil Tharavadu Vanayanattukulavan Temple – Kaliyattam Thira Theyyam Festival

Kunnaru Parayil Tharavadu Vayanattukulavan temple is located at Kunnaru in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Kandanar Kelan, Vayanattu Kulavan and other associated deities that are worshipped in kavu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for three days in Malayalam Meena Masam – Meenam 12 and Meenam 13 (March 26 and March 27).

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kunnaru Parayil Tharavadu Vayanattukulavan temple are Kandanar Kelan, Korachan Daivam, Vayanattu Kulavan, Madayil Chamundi, Vishnumoorthi, Veeran and Kudiveeran theyyam.

This is a small shrine with a square sanctum sanctorum (chathura sreekovil) for the main deities. Other deities are worshipped in smaller chathura sreekovil. Some deities are worshiped atop raised square platforms. Certain deities are worshiped under trees. Sankranti in every Malayalam month is of significance here.
