Kunduvadi Karimanal Chamundi Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Festival

Kunduvadi Karimanal Chamundi temple is located at Kunduvadi near Peringome in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Karimanal Chamundi and other deities that are worshipped in sacred places and kavu in Kannur region. The annual theyyam kaliyattam thira festival in the temple is held for seven days in Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 18 to Kumbam 24 (March 2 to March 8).

The theyyam that is performed at Kunduvadi Karimanal Chamundi temple is the Karimanal Chamundi theyyam.


The temple has four square sanctum sanctorum – chathura sreekovil (s) of various sizes for four main deities. Other deities popularly worshipped in Kavu and temples in Kannur region are also worshipped in the temple in small sreekovils and square platforms. Sankranti and Vishu are important days in the temple.

The roofs of the shrines are traditionally decorated with colorful motifs.
