Kallanthatt Temple – Theyyam Thira Kaliyattam Festival - Padamadakki Bhagavathi Theyyam

Kallanthatt Temple is located at Thaikkadappuram in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi and various other deities that are worshipped in kavu in the region. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for three days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 2 to Kumbham 4 (February 14 to Feb 16). The rare Padamadakki Bhagavathi theyyam can be witnessed in this shrine.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kallanthatt temple are Padamadakki Thampuratty theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Dharma Daivam, Nageshwari Devi, Kalanthathu Bhagavathy theyyam, Thondachan, Karim Chamundi, Gulikan theyyam.

This is a small shrine with a square sanctum sanctorum (chathura sreekovil) for the main deities. Other deities are worshipped in smaller chathura sreekovil. Some deities are worshiped atop raised square platforms. Certain deities are worshiped under trees. Sankranti in every Malayalam month is of significance here.
