Banakalagi Ritual In Puri Jagannath Temple – Facial Of Deities

Banakalagi ritual is the facial performed on the three main deities – Jagannath, Subhadra and Balabhadra – at the world-famous Puri Jagannath temple in Odisha. The ritual is performed once in a week and mostly on Wednesday.

When Banakalagi ritual is performed devotees cannot have darshan of the deities in the main sanctum sanctorum of the temple. It takes nearly 4 hours for the ritual to be completed.

The ingredients used in the ritual are kasturi, harital, karpura, kesar, kalasankha and dhalasankha.
