Alakkad Konginichal Kavu temple is located at Alakkad in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy and other deities that are worshipped in tharavadu, sacred places and kavu in Kannur region. The annual theyyam kaliyattam thira festival in Alakkad Konginichal Kavu is held for four days in Malayalam Makara Masam – Makaram 26 to Makaram 29 (February 9 to February 12).
The theyyams that are performed at Alakkad Konginichal Kavu temple are Kallara Bhagavathy theyyam, Konginichal Bhagavathy theyyam, Pulikandan theyyam, Rakta Chamundi theyyam, Thee Chamundi or Ottakolam theyyam and Vishnumoorthi theyyam.
The temple has square sanctum sanctorum – chathura sreekovil
(s) for main deities. Other deities popularly worshipped in Kavu and temples in
Kannur region are also worshipped in the temple in small sreekovils, under
trees and on square platforms. Sankranti and Vishu are important days in the
temple.
The temple has a well-maintained pond and a sacred grove
which preserves nature.
