Kurikkilad Mambaranholi Sree Kurumba Kavu Temple – Theyyam Kaliyattam Festival

Kurikkilad Mambaranholi Sree Kurumba Bhagavathy Kavu temple is located at Kurikkilad - Chorode East near Vadakara in Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Kurumb Bhagavathy. The annual theyyam kaliyattam thira festival is held for four days in Malayalam Meena Masam – Meenam 2 to Meenam 5 (March 16 to March 19).


The shrine here is a small chathura sreekovil – square sanctum sanctorum with a traditionally decorated roof. The other deities are worshipped under trees and on uncovered raised square platforms. Vishu and Sankranti are important days in the temple.

The important theyyams that can be witnessed at Kurikkilad Mambaranholi Sree Kurumba Bhagavathy Kavu temple are Gulikan, Kuttichathan, Sree Kurumba Bhagavathy theyyam, Vasoorimala theyyam and Karanavar theyyam.

The festival begins with Ganapathi puja and Shakteya pooja. Kodityettam, kalasham, Ari charthal, Thiriyattam, Guruthi, Uccha Pattu, Thiruvayudam ezhunellathu, Thandan Varavu, Pookkalasham varavu, Guruthi, Thayambaka are some of the main rituals and highlights of the festival.
