Kaumara Religion – Kaumara Matham

Like Shakteya religion and Ganapathiye religion of ancient times, Kaumara religion was a minor sect in Hinduism. In Kumara religion, Kumara is worshipped in the sankalpam of Brahman or the ultimate supreme truth. Kumara is known Skanda or Muruga or Subrahmania or Kartik and is the son of Mahadeva Shiva. This religion was very popular in South India. The Kumara or Murugan cult was very popular in ancient times.

The religion was based on teachings found in Skanda Purana and Hemandravratabandham.

It is believed that the famous saint Arunagirinathar was a believer of Kaumara religion.
