Thamburatty Theyyam – Story – Information

Thamburatty theyyam is a popular Mother Goddess theyyam performed during the annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival in numerous kavu, tharavadu, sacred places and temples in Kannur and Kasaragod region of Kerala. As per information, this is theyyam is a manifestation of Mother Goddess Bhagavathy (mostly it is the same Goddess Devi known by a different name). As per Thamburatti theyyam story, the Goddess makes her presence felt in a tharavadu. She blesses the people of the region with peace and prosperity when she is provided with a place of worship. She protects the region from communicable diseases and ushers in fertility, wealth and richness.

This theyyam is known to have an elaborate thirmudi. Devotees seek her blessing for desire fulfillment and to overcome health issues.

Tamburatty theyyam is performed annually at Iritty Punnad Muchilottu Bhagavathy temple, Kannur Taliparamb Kanool Anayottu Puthiya Bhagavathy tmple, Kannur Kannapuram Punchavayal Sree Koniyil Bhagavathy Kavu temple, Kannur Kalliasseri Puthiya Bhagavathy temple Kappoth Kavu), Azhikode Makkuni Tharavadu Devasthanam temple, Azhikode Kottarathumpara Mavila Kottam, Kasargod Kuttikkol Thamburatti Bhagavathi temple, Kannur Pattuvam Poothuruthi Kalari Kshetram and Kannur Payyannur Maniyara Paleri Tharavadu Devasthanam temple.
