Palayakode Bhagavathy Theyyam – Story – Information

Palayakode Bhagavathy theyyam is a ferocious Mother Goddess theyyam performed during the annual theyyam, thira, kaliyattam festival in Kannur region of Kerala. As per information, this is a Bhagavathy theyyam and she is a warrior. As per Palayakode Bhagavathy theyyam story, she appears to defeat demons and remains in a ferocious form. She is then spotted in a tharavadu in the region and is given a place of worship. She protects the people of the region. To her calm and to get her blessings a theyyam is annually performed in her honor.

The theyyam is offered prayers to overcome various diseases, for protections of agriculture and livestock and for victory over enemies.

The theyyam has a ferocious appearance with a huge thirumudi (headgear). The theyyam holds a sword and shield.
