Odakkali Bhagavathy Theyyam (ഓടക്കാളി ഭഗവതി) is a rare ferocious Mother Goddess Kali theyyam worshipped in a few kavu, tharavadu and temples during the annual theyyam, thira, kaliyattam festival in Kannur region of North Kerala. As per information, this is a ferocious form of Goddess Bhagavathy. As per Odakkali Bhagavathy theyyam story, she appeared to defeat demons but her uncontrollable fury caused disturbance in the region. She had also given darshan to an ardent devotee. She was given a proper place of worship and a theyyam is performed annually to keep her calm and benign.
She is worshipped to defeat enemies, for early cure from communicable diseases and for desire fulfillment.
The theyyam holds a sword and trishul in her hands. She has
a protruding tongue similar to Goddess Bhadrakali. Her headgear or thirumudi is
also unique.
