Nari Theyyam – Story – Information – Tiger Theyyam

Nari theyyam is a very rare unique and interesting theyyam performed during the annual kaliyattam thira theyyam festival period in Kannur and Kasaragod regions of Kerala. As per information, this a rare animal theyyam and is dedicated to tiger. It is said that after the theyyam – kaliyattam festival a tiger used to visit temples especially that dedicated to Vettakkorumakan. The theyyam is performed in remembrance of this divine event.

The theyyam walks on four limbs like a tiger and mimics sounds of tiger.

Nari theyyam wears the mask of a tiger and the body of the performer is painted with stripes or dots.
