Khichdi Utsav In Mathura – Radha Vallabh Mandir Khichdi Festival

The month long Khichdi Utsav in Mathura is held in January and is of great significance at the many temples here. The Khichdi festival is of great importance at the Radha Vallabh Temple. The most important date is the Makar Sankranti day. In 2025, the Khichdi Utsav in Mathura is on January 14.

The khichdi prepared in the mandir is special and is made with ghee, moong dal and rice of the highest quality. Spices including cumin seeds, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, mace, nutmeg, bay leaves, black pepper and rock salt give the khichdi of Radha Vallabh mandir a heavenly flavor. The khichdi is complete with dry fruits such as almonds, raisins, pistachios, dates, dried coconuts and saffron.

The khichdi is served along with various pickles made in the temple kitchens.

Some of the other bhog distributed during the Khichdi festival at Radha Vallabh mandir include basundi (sweetened and flavored milk) and adrak kocha (sweet made from fresh ginger).
