Karimkali theyyam is a ferocious Mother Goddess theyyam worshiped in few kavu tharavadu and temples during the annual kaliyattam thira festival in Kannur and Kasaragod districts of Kerala. As per information, this theyyam is the manifestation of Mother Goddess Kali in a ferocious form. Karinkali theyyam is that of her causing havoc in a region by disturbing the peaceful life of people by killing them and sucking their blood. To appease and for peaceful coexistence she is given an aaroodam or worship place. A theyyam is performed annually to keep her calm and content.
Karimkali theyyam is offered prayers to achieve peace and prosperity. She is worshiped for good health of children and also for desire fulfillment. Some tantrics propitiate her to defeat enemies.
Karimkali theyyam is performed annually at Taliparamba Udayagiri Cheriyapayam Karimchamundi-Muthappan temple (December 11 to December 13), Chala Kalarivattam temple (February 8), Kadachira Valiyamuttam temple (January 28 to Jan 29), Kunhimangalam Kuthirummal Mattummal Kalari Devasthanam temple (March 1 to March 4) and Kuthuparambu Neerveli Thattuparamb Sree Gurunatha temple (Feb 18 to Feb 19) in Kannur in region.
