Cheengayil Vanavar Theyyam is a very rare theyyam performed during the annual kaliyattam – theyyam festival in Kannur region of Kerala. As per information, this is a male theyyam and is noted for its ferociousness. The story of Cheengayil Vanavar theyyam is that of a mythical creature something like the Vanaras in Ramayana helping a person. He is believed to have protected wealth and life a person. The theyyam also causes disturbances if not treated properly. It is believed that he was given a place among theyyams so that he remains calm without disturbing the people.
Cheengayil Vanavar theyyam holds a stick and during his appearance he is known to run into fire pit and kick them.
