Chitragupta Puja 2024 date - Chitragupta Jayanti

Chitragupta Puja, or Jayanti, is performed on the second day of the Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month by some communities in North India.  The most popular Chitragupta Puja is observed after Diwali and in 2024 it is on November 3 as per North India calendars.  Chitragupta Puja 2024 date during Chaitra month (Madhya Pradesh) is on March 27. Chitragupta is believed to be the keeper of the account books containing the good and bad deeds performed by human beings on earth.

Note - In Tamil Nadu, Chitragupta Puja is observed on the full moon day in Tamil month of Chithirai and this is on April 23, 2024.

It is believed that He first appeared on Kartik Shukla Paksha Dwitiya before Brahma. Therefore the day is chosen for puja and rituals.

Chtiragupta Jayanti
Bhagavan Chitragupta was born from the body of Lord Brahma. He is always depicted as carrying a pen and inkpot. Since he was born from the body of Lord Brahma, he was known as Kayastha and in the earth, he was known as Chitragupt. He keeps the records of good and bad deeds performed by people and informs about it to Yamraj when a person dies and reaches the Yamlok.

The Kayastha community believes that they are descendants of Chitragupta and perform special pujas and rituals on the Chitragupta Puja day.

Shobha Yatra, charity and literary activities are held at various places on the day.

Sarvajanik mandals, associations, and groups that perform the puja keep a murti of Chitragupta for public worship which is later immersed in water.

In Madhya Pradesh, it is observed on Chaitra Krishna Paksha Dwitiya - two days after Holi Festival.
