Chamundeshwari Theyyam – Information – Story

Chamundeshwari theyyam is a popular theyyam performed during the annual theyyam – thira – kaliyattam festival in Kannur and Kasaragod regions of Kerala. The theyyam is performed in several tharavadu (houses), kavu and temples. As per information, the theyyam is associated with Goddess Shakti (Durga and Bhagavathy – her form taken to annihilate Munda and Chamunda). As per Chamundeshwari theyyam story, she is believed to have taken the ferocious form to protect the wealth and life of a staunch devotee of hers. Her theyyam are performed in those places wherever she appeared.
