Pilicode Karakkakavu Bhagavathi Temple – Theyyam – Kaliyattam Festival

Pilicode Karakkakavu Bhagavathi temple is located at Pilicode in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The annual theyyam – thira festival in the temple is held once in three years. The last one was held in 2023 and the next one will be held in 2026. The festival is held for three days in Meda Masam – Medam 21 to Medam 24 (May 4 to May 7).

The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi and the murti of Vishnumoorthi is worshipped on the right side of Bhagavathi.

The festival is famous as Sree Karakkakkavu Vadakke Nada Ottakolam and is famous for unique rituals and pujas.


The main theyyam performed in the temple are Thoovakkaran, Karinthiri Nair, Pulikandan, Puliyoor Kannan, Pulimaruthan, Kalapuli, Vannathan Theyyam, Padaveeran, Pullikarinkali, Puliyoor Kali, Raktha Chamundi, Angakulangara Bhagavathi and Vishnumoorthi theyyam.

The shrine has a couple of chathura sreekovil for the deities. There is a beautiful pond in the temple premises. Sankranthi days in traditional Malayalam calendar and Vishu are important days in the temple.
