Palathara Neelankai Bhagavathy temple is located at Palathara near Karivellur in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy and other popular deities that are worshipped in kavu and tharavadu in Kannur region. The annual theyyam kaliyattam thira festival in the temple is held for two days in Dhanu Masam – Dhanu 16 and Dhanu 17 (December 31 and January 1).
The theyyams that are performed in this temple during kaliyattam festival are Oorpazhassi theyyam, Uchoolikadavath Bhagavathy theyyam, Vishnumoorthi theyyam, Vettakkorumakan theyyam and Gulikan theyyam.
This is a small traditional Kerala style temple with a small chathura sreekovil. There are no major structures. Other deities popularly worshipped in Kavu and temples in Kannur region are also worshipped in the temple in small sreekovils and square platforms. Sankranti and Vishu are important days in the temple.
The annual festival days are noted various unique pujas and rituals, melam, decoration, fireworks and traditional temple performing art forms.
