Kanhangad Kattukulangara Meethaleveedu Tharavadu Temple – Theyyam – Kaliyattam Festival

Kanhangad Kattukulangara Meethaleveedu Tharavadu temple is located at Kattukulangara near Kanhangad in Kasaragod district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to various powerful deities that are worshipped in tharavadu, kavu and temples in Kasragod region. The annual theyyam – kaliyattam festival in the temple is held once in five years for two days in Malayalam Kumbha Masam – Kumbham 18 and Kumbham 19 (March 2 and March 3). The next theyyam will be held in 2028.

The important theyyams that are part of the annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival are Kammadathu Amma theyyam or Kammadathu Bhagavathy theyyam, Karnavar theyyam, Veeran theyyam, Chamundi theyyam, Cheriya Bhagavathy theyyam, and Vishnumoorthi theyyam.

The temple has a small but heavily decorated chathura sreekovil. The shrine has a beautiful roof. Important deities are worshipped in sreekovil and on square platforms. Vishu and Sankranti are important days in the temple.
