Velladakkathu Bhagavathi temple is located at Kannom near Pariyaram in Kannur district, Kerala. The annual kaliyattam – theyyam festival in the temple is held for three days in Malayalam Makara Masam – Makaram 9, Makaram 10 and Makaram 11 (January 23 to January 25). The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Devi or Bhagavathy.
This is a typical tharavadu maintained temple or kavu seen across Kannur district. The main shrine is with a small decorated chathura sreekovil. The other deities are worshipped on square platforms and also in small sreekovils.
The shrine observes both Shakteya and Shaiva temple rituals. Melam, Kerala temple rituals, performing art forms of Kerala temples and other rituals are part of the annual festival and ritual calendar of the temple. Vishu is an important festival in the temple.
The main theyyams performed here during the annual Kaliyattam festival are Baali Theyyam, Kakkara Bhagavathy Theyyam, Dharma Daivam theyyam, Vishnu Moorthy Theyyam and Madayil Chamundi Theyyam.
