Kathmandu Kageshvar Mahadev Temple Nepal

Kageshvar Mahadev temple, also known as Kageshwor, is located at Durbar square in Kathmandu, Nepal. The shrine is dedicated to Shiva. The temple was damaged during the 1934 earthquake. A Shivling is worshipped in the sanctum sanctorum. Shivratri is the most important festival in the temple.

The temple was built for Queen Bhuvanalakshmi in 1711 and was also known as Bhuvanalaksmesvara.

The present temple is white shikhara style temple. But historians are of the view that the original temple must have been a two or three tier pagoda style temple with two or three roofs.

The temple is noted for its wooden and stone sculptors. There are also intricate carvings on doors and windows.
