Valapad Melthrukovil Shiva Temple

Valapad Melthrukovil Shiva temple is located at Valapad in Thrissur district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Mahadevar – Shiva. The annual Maha Shivratri festival which falls on February or March (Malayalam Kumbha Masam) is an important day in Vennikal Shiva kshetram.

The temple has a chathura sreekovil with a Shivling and it faces east. The upa devatas worshipped include Ganapathy and Sastha or Ayyappa. The shrine has a namaskara mandapam with a Nandi or Rishabham. The temple has an architecture that is similar to Shiva temples in Thrissur district.

The Shivratri festival is noted for abhishekam, dhara, Tantric pujas and rituals, homam etc.

Mondays and Saturdays are important days in a week. Pradosham Vratam on the 13th day of a fortnight is observed here.

Ramayana Masam, Navratri, Vrischika Masam (Mandala Kalam) and Thiruvathira in Dhanu Masam are important in the temple.
