Vadakkencherry Sree Nagasahayam Temple – Vela Festival

Vadakkencherry  Sree Nagasahayam temple, also known as Ganapati Sahayam temple, is located at Vadakkencherry in Thrissur district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to serpents (Nagas) and Ganapathy. The annual festival in the temple is held in Malayalam Meda Masam (April – May).

The murtis of Nagas are worshipped under a peepal tree. Another important deity in the temple is Ganapathi.


The annual festival in the temple is noted for chamaya pradarshanam, panchari melam, deepalamkaram, shuddhi palabhishekam, Ganapathi homam, parayeduppu, idu vedi, kelikottu, kazhcha seeveli along with panchavadyam and pandi melam, kudamattam, fireworks and thayambaka.

The shrine also conducts Bhagavatha Sapta yajnam and various other pujas and ritual on Ayilyam nakshatra day in all Malayalam months.
