Pavaratty Venmenad Povvenkavil Temple – Thalappoli Festival

Pavaratty Venmenad Povvenkavil temple (Povil temple) is located at Venmenad near Pavaratty in Thrissur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy. The annual festival in the temple is observed in Malayalam Makara Masam (March – April).

The west facing Bhagavathi shrine has a vatta sreekovil. There are other chathura sreekovil of upa devatas.

Special festival day tantric pujas are held in the morning which is followed by Sheeveli. Three caparisoned elephants participate in the pooram which involves melam. Kavettam with traditional temple art forms take place in the evening. Later, small poorams from various regions in the area arrive at the temple. Pooram from Muthappan kavu arrive at night. This is followed by aivarkali and ezhunellippu.
