Mankurussi Bhagavathy Temple – Festival

Mankurussi Bhagavathy temple is located at Mankurussi in Palakkad district, Kerala. The important festival in the temple are Karthika Vilakku in Vrischika Masam (November – December) and the annual Pratishta festival in Meda Masam (April – May). The temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati and Shiva.

This is a traditional Kerala style temple with a nalambalam, namaskara mandapam, chathura sreekovil and shrines of upa devatas. The main upa devatas in the temple are Ganapathy, Goddess Saraswati, Nagas and Ayyappa or Sastha.

The annual Karthika vilakku festival is spread over 10 days and is famous for ezhunnallathu, caparisoned elephants, lamps, performing art forms of Kerala temples, melam, procession, dance and musical programs. Tantric pujas and rituals are part of the annual festival.

The temple observes Shivratri, Navratri with Ayudha puja and Vidyarambham, Aanayoottu, Arudra Darshanam.
