Malumel Bhagavathy Temple – Vishu Festival

Malumel Bhagavathy temple is located at Thodiyoor near Karunagapally in Kollam district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhadra Kali Devi. Vishu (April 14 or April 15) is an important festival in the temple. The annual festival in the temple is noted for Tantric pujas and rituals and is famous as Meda Vishu Utsavam.

The 10-day festival concludes on Pathamudayam day (April 23 or April 24).

The temple with a two tier sanctum sanctorum likes on the banks of Pallikkalar. This is a small Kerala style temple with a chuttambalam, namaskara mandapam, shrines of upa devatas, temple pond with fishes and chathura sreekovil.

The shrine observes various Shakti temple rituals on festive days. Apart from Vishu, Navratri, Vrischika Masam and Thrikarthika festival are observed in the temple.

The annual festival is famous for Kettukazhcha including Kuthira and Kala. Jeevitha ezhunnallathu is an important part of the annual puja and festival in the temple.
